A radiation therapy apparatus with a radiation source has a ring shaped gantry with a static ring component and a dynamic ring component 1 upon which the radiation source is mounted. The dynamic ring component is rotatable about the ring centre and is provided in multiple arcuate parts 2a, 2b, 2c which can be assembled together to form the dynamic ring. Each arcuate part preferably includes bores tangential to the ring which align when it is assembled, to receive connector bolts (8,10,11, figure 3B). The bolts may engage with threaded pegs (9, figure 3B) which lie perpendicular to the bolts. Shim plates may be inserted between the arcuate parts and may have apertures for the passage of the bolts. The arcuate parts may be marked to identify their proper position and/or orientation in the assembly. They facilitate transport or movement of the gantry. The radiation therapy apparatus may be an image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) device incorporating a linac and an MRI device.
