The method involves arranging a reference pattern with predetermined density, thickness, and effective atomic number distributions adjacent to the mammary gland. The parameters of the relationship between the atomic number and the difference or the ratio of the logarithms of multiple photons, which pass through the mammary gland at two different radiation energies without interaction, are determined based on the mammograms of the reference pattern. The distribution of the atomic number in the mammary gland is presented visually based on the parameters of the relationship.
