Disclosed is a respiratory mask for continuous positive airway pressure treatment for improved sealing around a wearer&rsquos nasal airways. The mask comprises a cushion (80) adapted to be positioned against the face of a patient, the cushion being configured in a gasket arrangement around an entrance to the airways of the patient. The cushion includes an orifice (84) formed therein and configured to be positioned externally of the patient&rsquos airways and in fluid communication therewith. The cushion is configured to engage an underside of the patient&rsquos nose, and is constructed from foam that has a thickness of greater than about 5 mm. The cushion is attached to a support structure (82) and the support structure imparts curvature to the cushion. The foam is positioned to contact the skin directly and has an exposed open cellular structure to contact the patient&rsquos skin. Lateral stabilizing portions are constructed from foam in one piece with the cushion.
