PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide pharmaceutical and food compositions for preventing or treating diabetes or obesity.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to: a novel compound expressed by a formula (1) and synthesized from a compound separated from an extract of an antarctic lichen, the Stereocaulon alpinum； and pharmaceutical compositions and functional foods for preventing or treating diabetes or obesity, which contain the compound as an active ingredient. The novel compounds can be used for treating the diabetes as PTP-1b (protein tyrosine phosphatase-1b) inhibitors, which are thus effective in preventing or treating the diabetes or obesity.【課題】糖尿病若しくは肥満の予防、または治療用医薬組成物及び食品組成物の提供。【解決手段】南極地衣類であるステレオカウロンアルピヌム抽出物から分離した化合物から合成した式（１）で表される新規化合物、及びこれを有効性分として含有する糖尿病若しくは肥満の予防、または治療用医薬組成物及び機能性食品。【効果】新規化合物は、ＰＴＰ－１ｂ（protein tyrosine phosphatase-1b）阻害剤として糖尿治療に利用可能であるため、糖尿病及び肥満の予防、または治療に効果的である。【選択図】なし
