The present invention relates to the expansion and activation of T cells. In one aspect, the invention relates to the expansion and activation of γδ T cells that can be used for transgenic gene expression. In another aspect, the invention relates to the expansion and activation of γδ T cells while depleting α- and/or β-TCR positive cells. T cell populations consisting of expanded γδ T cells and depleted or reduced α- and/or β-TCR positive cells are also provided in the present disclosure.
