Embodiments for providing an elastic image are disclosed. In one embodiment, an ultrasound system comprises: an ultrasound data acquisition unit (110) configured to transmit and receive ultrasound signals to and from a living body to output ultrasound data corresponding to a plurality of frames while applying compression to the living body； and a processing unit (120) configured to extract frames from a (n-1) th frame to a (n-i) th frame on a basis of a n th frame, wherein n indicates an integer larger than one and i indicates a positive integer, detect an optimal frame for forming an elastic image among the extracted frames by using first displacement between the n th frame and each of the extracted frames based on the ultrasound data, calculate second displacement between the optimal frame and the n th frame based on the ultrasound data, and form the elastic image based on the second displacement.복수의 이전 프레임 중에서 탄성 영상을 형성하기 위한 최적의 이전 프레임을 검출하고, 검출된 이전 프레임과 현재 프레임 간에 변위를 산출하여 탄성 영상을 제공하는 초음파 시스템 및 방법이 개시된다. 본 발명에 따른 초음파 시스템은, 대상체에 압력(stress)를 가하는 동안에 초음파 신호를 대상체에 송신하고 대상체로부터 반사되는 초음파 에코신호를 수신하여 복수의 프레임 각각에 해당하는 초음파 데이터를 획득하도록 동작하는 초음파 데이터 획득부； 및 초음파 데이터를 이용하여 N(N은 2 이상의 정수)번째 프레임을 기준으로 (N-1)번째 프레임 내지 (N-M)번째 프레임을 설정하고, (N-1)번째 프레임 내지 (N-M)번째 프레임에서 탄성 영상을 형성하기 위한 최적의 프레임을 검출하고, 검출된 프레임과 N번째 프레임 간에 변위를 산출하며, 변위를 이용하여 탄성 영상을 형성하도록 동작하는 프로세서를 포함한다.
