Denture adhesive are materials used to reduce the displcament of the mandibular and maxillary dentures during mastication and speech. It provides a sense of security and confidence for denture wearers. More importantly, it facilitates people suffering from dry mouth, hypofunction of their salivary glands and unfavourable jaw ridges in wearing their dentures. In the Philippines, a third world country with 7,100 islands, denture adhesives are considered expensive. Its availability and accessibility to the public posed a proble. The researchers seek to look into the vast natural resource of the Philippines that would function as denture adhesive. Okra is a popular vegetable but little is known about its other uses specially its mucilage property. Mucilage means glue-like. This awakened the interest of the researchers to study on the mucilage property of Okra.
