PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a transgenic plant, modified in the physical and/or chemical properties of starch synthesized in a plant, by integrating the plant with a DNA molecule encoding a wheat-derived starch synthase. SOLUTION: The nucleic acid molecule encoding an enzyme involved in starch biosynthesis in a plant, particularly the nucleic acid molecule encoding a wheat-derived soluble starch synthase (SSS), is provided. The vector and the transformed plant cell each containing the nucleic acid molecule are also provided respectively. By using the vector and the transformed plant cell, a plant that is genetically modified so as to increase or decrease the activity of the above enzyme is produced, and the properties of starch synthesized from the plant are modified.
