There is provided a gastric device comprising a compressible free-floating structure and a sleeve attached to the free-floating structure. The device is considered to be of the anchorless type because the sleeve is not physically attached to any part of the GI tract. The device is configurable between a pre-compressed and an expanded post-expansion configuration. The free floating device can be made of a shape memory material such as Nitinol.
