Disclosed is an intravenous liquid delivery system (10). The system comprises an intravenous pump tubing set (40), a pump actuator (20) operable with the intravenous pump tubing set, means for removing air, and an air detector (72) configured to sense air in the intravenous pump tubing set. The means for removing air may include an air passing but liquid retaining filter (see 76, figure 1), and/or a liquid passing air retaining filter (see 78, figure 2). A device for indicating whether the air detector is present and a control unit (12) may also be included.
