A breast pump comprising: a container comprising a deformable body and a lid, the container further comprising an inlet and a vent, wherein the vent is provided with a vent valve which is configured to allow air flow out of the container through the vent but not into the container through the vent； a nipple engaging means for receiving milk expressed from a user's breast； and a flexible conduit fluidly connecting the nipple engaging means and the inlet of the deformable container. In use, milk expressed from the breast flows from the nipple engaging means through the flexible conduit to the container.
