The device comprises an animal monitoring tag with sensor(s) for collecting biometric and location data, and a wireless transceiver. An apparatus for biometric and location monitoring of an animal, comprises the device operatively connected to a system including a wireless transceiver, a server, a set of algorithms for determining the presence of any conditions related to the animal and an alert means. A method of biometric and location monitoring includes the steps of monitoring and collecting animal data via a device installed on an animal, transmitting the data to the system, analyzing the animal data with a set of algorithms to identify any conditions related to the animal, and generating a message concerning the condition of the animal.
