The device has an accommodating chamber (1) for wood to be bundled, where the wood is continuously supplied to the chamber during operation of the device. A bundling- and conveying unit (2) is attached to the chamber, and a sawing device (3) i.e. miter saw, is arranged downstream to the bundling- and conveying unit for separating strand-shaped bundles from the woods. The bundling- and conveying unit is disengaged during separation of the bundles by the sawing device that is fixedly arranged in a conveying direction at the device. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a device for bundling woods.
