PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method that avoids such damage, in particular mechanical damages of radiating elements.SOLUTION: A device 1 for the sterilization of containers 10 comprises a sterilization unit 2 which has a rod-like body 4, insertable into an interior space of the containers 10 through an opening of the containers 10, and which irradiates an inner wall of the containers 10 loaded with a radiation, and a movement device which generates a relative movement between the containers 10 and the sterilization unit 2 such that the rod-like body 4 is insertable into the receptacles 10.
