Microcapsules for controlled release of water soluble or dispersible compounds are disclosed, wherein the microencapsules have a polymeric wall formed from the in-situ reaction of oil soluble materials comprising (i) at least one glycoluril resin, and (ii) an isocyanate,wherein the ratio of (ii) to (i) is at the most 20:1 and at least 1:2, wherein the average size of the microcapsules is from 0.1 micron to 25 microns, and wherein the size percentile 90 of the microcapsules is at the most 100 microns, when measured in dispersion in water in a conventional laser diffraction apparatus and wherein the reaction product preferably is produced by a polymerization reaction using at least one catalyst selected from the group consisting of: (a) a polycyclic azo compound and (b) a non-nitrogenated catalyst, and wherein the particularly preferred catalyst is selected from dibutyl tin laureate and (1,8-)diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene.
