PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved systems and methods for increasing the reliability of alarm notification transmission and/or patient physiological data transmission in wireless patient monitoring systems.SOLUTION: An acquisition device 40 includes a control unit 41 that detects alarm conditions based upon the physiological data received from a patient. A primary transmitter 42 and a secondary transmitter 43 are coupled to the control unit and are each capable of transmitting the alarm condition. When the primary transmitter 42 is not able to communicate with a primary wireless network 10, the control unit 41 activates the secondary transmitter 43 to transmit the alarm condition.
