PURPOSE: A composition containing angiopoietin 1 for preventing or treating muscular atrophy or sarcopenia is provided to promote proliferation and differentiation of skeletal muscle cells and to improve intracellular calcium delivery ability. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating muscular atrophy or sarcopenia contains angiopoietin 1 or a protein with a substantially identical physiological activity with angiopoietin 1. Angiopoietin 1 is derived from human body or a mouse. The composition additionally contains a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
