The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating osteoarthritis containing 3'- or 6'-sialyllactose or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The 3'- or 6'-sialyllactose of the present invention facilitates cartilage formation and at the same time effectively inhibits cartilage tissue destruction, and therefore is useful as a composition for the prevention or treatment of osteoarthritis.
