One embodiment of the present invention is an endoscope system including an illumination unit, a color component ratio measurement unit, and a light amount ratio adjustment unit. The illumination unit sequentially or simultaneously irradiates the object to be observed with a plurality of narrowband lights having different wavelengths and capable of controlling the light amount independently of each other as illumination light. The color component ratio measurement unit measures the color component ratio of the illumination light. The light amount ratio adjustment unit adjusts the light amount ratio of the narrowband light based on the output from the color component ratio measurement unit, and corrects the illumination light to have a desired color.
