A method for evaluating the effect of the formation of long term memory in a non-human animal comprising the steps of: a) administering to an animal an effective amount of a candidate compound identified in a screening confirmed wherein said candidate compound is identified in combination with a suboptimal dose of a stimulating agent CREB function and found to enhance the function of the CREB pathway in a cell-based assay and wherein he said confirmed candidate is identified in a method comprising: (i) contacting cells of neuronal origin with said candidate compound and with a suboptimal dose of a stimulating agent CREB function (Ii) assessing endogenous CREB-dependent gene expression in cells that have been contacted with said candidate compound and with said stimulating agent CREB function and (iii) comparing endogenous gene expression CREB-dependent evaluated in step ii) with endogenous gene expression CREB-dependent in control cells which have been contacted with said stimulating agent CREB function and not have been contacted with said candidate compound, wherein a difference in gene expression CREB-dependent evaluated in step ii) compared to gene expression CREB-dependent in control cells confirms that said compound is a candidate compound for enhancing the function of the CREB pathway, thereby identifying said compound as a candidate compound confirmed candidate and (b) training said animal administered said compound in appropriate to produce long term memory in the animal (c) assessing long term memory formation in said animal taught in step b) conditions and (d) comparing the formation of long term memory evaluated in step c) with the formation of long term memory produced in a control animal that has been administered said candidate compound.Un método para evaluar el efecto de la formación de la memoria a largo plazo en un animal no humano que comprende los pasos de: a) administrar a un animal una cantidad eficaz de un compuesto candidato confirmado identi
