PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily be in focus by both visible light and infrared ray by changing position of focus reference between visual observation and infrared observation.SOLUTION: A focus reference index Mv is electrically generated on a display part 43 at the same height as a position of a focus index image P when an image pickup means brings a fundus into focus, as shown in (a), in the case of the visible light, which is a reference of a focus state. Similarly, in the case of the infrared ray, as in (b), a focus reference index Mir positioned below the focus reference index Mv is electrically generated so that the focus index image P is formed at the back of the fundus. In the case of visible light observation, the focus reference index Mv and the focus index image P are matched and the image P is matched to the focus reference index Mir in the case of infrared ray observation. Thus, the image pickup means is in focus on the fundus.
