A device 1 for connecting a needle (200, Fig 10) or blood bag tube with a sampling container (201, Fig 10), comprises a base 2, a lower member 25 and an upper member 40. The base has a bottom end 3, a side wall 5 and a rim (6, Figure 5b) which together creates a base chamber 10. A pair of elongate flexible arms (12, Fig 5b) extend from the side wall away from the bottom end and an elongate boss 15 with an aperture 17 extends away from the bottom end the aperture defining a longitudinal axis. In use, a spring 20 is located at least partly within the chamber, about the boss and extending away from the bottom end. The lower member 25 has a flange (27, Fig 7a) and an aperture (28, Fig 7a) a collar 30 extends from the flange, for retaining an end of the spring, and at least one leg 32 extends away from the flange in the opposite direction to the collar. The upper member 40 has a flange 41 which is operatively associated with the flange of the lower member and has an aperture (43, Fig 6b) corresponding with the aperture of said lower member, a boss 46 extending about the aperture. A wall (47, Fig 6b) extends away from this flange to a rim 48, defining a sampling chamber 50 and has at least one slot (51, Fig 6c) for receiving the leg/s of the lower member. An elongate cover 60 is connected at a first end to the base and at a second end to the upper member and a connector 70 with an elongate tube is connected to the boss of the base. In use, the upper and lower members move along the longitudinal axis by the positioning of a sampling container in said sampling chamber and the application of a force towards said base. As the upper member moves, an end of the connector extends beyond the boss of the upper member allowing a needle or blood bag tube located within the connector to discharge liquid into a connected sampling container.
