PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biometric authentication device that detects appropriate placement of a living organism without fail, and induces so as to be the appropriate placement when inappropriately placed.SOLUTION: A position guide and a marking 280 indicative of the position where a living organism 290 is placed are provided at a position where the living organism is placed, and sensors (touch sensors) 241 to 244 are provided that detect placement of the living organism, and then, whether or not the placement is appropriate is detected.
