A method of forming an alginate hydrogel in a locus in the human or animal body, comprising i) mixing an alginate solution with a viscosity in the range of 200 – 3000 centipoise with a quantity of divalent ions to make an alginate containing composition ii) administering the alginate containing composition to a locus in the human or animal body and iii) forming an alginate hydrogel in the locus wherein at least 50% of the alginate containing composition is retained in the locus.Linvention concerne un procédé de formation dhydrogel dalginate dans un locus dans le corps humain ou animal, consistant i) à mélanger une solution dalginate, ayant une viscosité comprise dans la plage de 200 à 3000 centipoises, avec une quantité dions divalents pour obtenir une composition contenant de lalginate ii) à administrer la composition contenant de lalginate à un locus dans le corps humain ou animal iii) à former un hydrogel dalginate dans le locus, au moins 50 % de la composition contenant de lalginate étant retenu dans le locus.
