The toothbrush is provided with: a rotating support mechanism (5) that is provided to one end side in the lengthwise direction of a grip section (3) that is to be gripped by a user and a brush body (21) that is supported by the rotating support mechanism (5). The rotating support mechanism is configured so that, when the user moves the grip section, the brush body can perform at least two types of independent rolling rotation in both directions as a result of friction that is received from a site within the oral cavity of the user. There is a possibility of damaging a site within the oral cavity when only one type of rotation is used and a brush is moved in a non-rotation direction, but the use of two types of rotation eliminates this possibility. The toothbrush may be either manually or electrically operated.
