Embodiments herein are directed to compositions and methods for stabilizing live alphaviruses. Other embodiments are directed to compositions and methods for reducing the degradation of live, attenuated alpha viruses. Certain embodiments relate to providing a stabilizing composition while reducing the immune response in a subject to an excipient that stabilizes the live alpha virus by providing an improved formulation.
