A mould part (54) is used to produce a cast (40) of a portion of a dental arch of a patient. The cast (40) has a bore positioned in a predetermined position the mould part (54) comprises a base portion and a protrusion (58) extending from the base portion wherein the protrusion (58) defines the bore in the cast. The predetermined position in the dental arch may be a desired position for a dental implant in the dental arch. The protrusion (58) may be a hollow tube. The position of the protrusion is dependent on a digital image of the location of a dental implant in a digital model of the patient’s dental arch. A first image of the internal structure of a patient’s dental arch may be combined with an image created from a physical dental model to produce a digital model. Apparatus may be used to image a patient’s dental arch having fiduciary markers that are captured in a first image of the internal structure of a dental arch and a second image capturing an image of the outer surface of the dental arch or a model of the dental arch.
