An apparatus and method forminimally invasive suturing is disclosed. Asuturing device for minimally invasive suturingincludes proximal section having a proximalend, a distal end, and a longitudinal axistherebetween； a suture head assembly extendingfrom the distal end of the proximal section；a suturing needle having a pointed endand a blunt end, the suturing needle capableof rotating about an axis approximately perpendicularto a longitudinal axis of the proximalsection, wherein the pointed end of thesuturing needle is positioned within thesuture head assembly prior to and after rotationof the suturing needle； and an actuatorextending from the proximal end of theproximal section to actuate a drive mechanismhaving a needle driver for engaging androtating the suturing needle.
