The present invention provides a synergistic poly-herbal formulation comprising a combination of extract of Commiphora mukul extract of Emblica officinalis extract of Terminalia chebula extract of Terminalia belerica extract of Zingiber officinale extract of Piper nigrum extract of Piper longum extract of Tinospora cordifoliaextract of Operculina turpethum extract of Baliospermum montanum extract of Embelia ribes Burm, and at least one pharmaceutically acceptable excipient. The present invention also provides a method for detection of active phyto-constituents of the present formulation, said method comprising: a) developing a solvent system and b)analyzing a sample using High Performance Thin Layer Chromatography (HPTLC). The active phyto-constituent detected by the present method is selected from the group consisting of gallic acid, berberine, quercitin, ellagic acid, ascorbic acid and guggulsterone E.
