An electronic monitoring device (101) suitable for monitoring the passage of air through a positive expiratory pressure (PEP) device (100). The monitoring device comprises a sensor (206) positioned within a housing (109) and configured to detect a change in pressure within the device chamber (202) including the start and end of a breath exhaled into the device. A time recorder (401) measures a time period between the start and end of a breath.
