A method and apparatus for applying a rotational transformto a portion of a three-dimensional representation of an appliance for aliv-ing body is disclosed. The representation is defined by an input pluralityofcoordinates stored in a processor circuit memory, the input plurality ofco-ordinates representing a general shape of the appliance. The methodin-volves receiving operator input identifying a coordinate location of arota-tional axis about which the rotational transform is to be applied,receivingoperator input of at least one constraint defining an extent of a transformvolume within which the rotational transform is to be applied to therepre-sentation of the appliance, and receiving operator input of a rotationaltransform magnitude. The method also involves applying the rotationaltransform to the portion of the representation of the appliance within thetransform volume to produce an output plurality of coordinatesrepresent-ing a modified shape of the appliance such that the general shape ofpor-tions of the appliance outside the transform volume remain un-modified bythe rotational transform, and storing the output plurality of coordinates inthe processor circuit memory.
