The seat lift 20 for use with a bath has a seat 22, a seat back 24 hingedly connected to the seat 22, a torsion spring, and a guide to reversibly guide the seat 22 between lowered and raised positions through a lateral and vertical movement. The seat back 24 moves between upright and reclined positions. The torsion spring biases the seat back 24 to rotate towards the upright position. The torque exerted by the torsion spring is smaller when the seat 22 is in the lower position than in the upper position. The torsion spring may interact with a bath base when the seat 22 is lower than a predetermined height. The torsion spring may be a duel torsion spring. A tilting lever 40 may be connected to the seat back 24 and have a bath-base contact extending below the seat 22. The contact may be spaced from the seat 22 when the seat back 24 is upright where movement of the contact towards the seat 22 may cause the seat back 24 to recline.
