To provide a composition which comprises glyceryl ascorbic acid and has excellent whitening effect and to provide a cosmetic blended with the composition.SOLUTION: There is provided a composition having high whitening effect obtained by incorporating (A) at least one selected from glyceryl ascorbic acid and a salt thereof, (B) one or two or more selected from the group consisting of glyceryl ascorbic acid and a salt thereof other than (A) and whitening agents other than ascorbic acid or an ascorbic acid derivative and a salt thereof, which exhibits the effect synergistically more than a single use of these components.
