PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray imaging apparatus that can capture an X-ray phase contrast image without using an absorption grating.SOLUTION: The X-ray imaging apparatus for imaging, by the Talbot effect, an X-ray phase contrast image using an X ray from an X-ray source, includes: a first diffraction grating disposed at the front or back of a subject placed in a position where the X-ray from the X-ray source comes in, and for forming a self-image by the Talbot effect of a penetrating X ray a second diffraction grating placed in a position where the self-image is formed by the first diffraction grating and an X-ray detector having pixels for detecting the strength distribution of the X-ray penetrated through the second diffraction grating.
