The tunneling device (10) includes an outer assembly (12) and an inner member or 5 stylet (14), having a light transmissive distal tip (22), positioned within the outer assembly (12). The outer assembly (12) is provided with a light port or guide (48) to transmit light towards the distal tip (22) of the stylet (14). The disclosed illuminated tunneling device (10) is particularly adapted for use in an Intravaginal Slingplasty procedure. The illuminated tunneling device (10) can be provided with an external source 1o of light or may include an integral self-contained source of light.
