PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system which can sufficiently ensure safety in performing an endoscopic observation by using laser beams.SOLUTION: An endoscope system includes: a light source part which supplies laser beams as illumination light for illuminating a subject； an insertion part that can be inserted into a body cavity of the subject； a light guide part which guides the illumination light from a proximal end portion of the insertion part to a distal end portion to emit the illumination light； a light receiving part which receives return light that is the light generated from the subject in response to the emission of the illumination light and external light generated by external factors other than the illumination light； a brightness detection part which detects brightness in the periphery of a prescribed position outside the subject as first brightness； a determination part which determines threshold values of the first brightness detected by the brightness detection part and second brightness acquired based on a light volume of the external light received by the light receiving part respectively； and a control part for setting a light volume of the illumination light supplied from the light source part based on a determination result by the determination part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1【課題】レーザ光を用いて内視鏡観察を行う際の安全性を十分に確保することが可能な内視鏡システムを提供する。【解決手段】内視鏡システムは、被写体を照明するための照明光としてレーザ光を供給する光源部と、被検体の体腔内に挿入可能な挿入部と、照明光を挿入部の基端部から先端部へ導光して出射する導光部と、照明光の照射に応じて被写体から発生した光である戻り光と、照明光以外の外的要因により発生した光である外光と、を受光する受光部と、被検体の外部における所定の位置の周囲の明るさを第１の明るさとして検出する明るさ検出部と、明るさ検出部により検出された第１の明るさと、受光部により受光された外光の光量に応じて取得した第２の明るさと、のそれぞれに対して閾値判定を行う判定部と、判定部の判定結果に基づいて光源部から供給される照明光の光量を設定する制御部と、を有する。【選択図】図１
