PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit for an endoscope which prevents an auxiliary light diaphragm plate from being set in an open condition during a normal use using a main light source.
SOLUTION: The light source unit for an endoscope controls the amount of light that enters a light guide from a main light source or an auxiliary light by means of a rotary diaphragm plate 50 having a plurality of diaphragm openings 51a-51k of different numerical apertures and the auxiliary light diaphragm opening 53. A projection 56 and a safety projection 47 that abuts the projection 56 are provided for controlling the rotation of the rotary diaphragm plate 50 so as to prevent the auxiliary light diaphragm opening 53 enters the light path 23a of the main light source during normal use.
