PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trocar support which can be used with an existing trocar to assist in holding the trocar in place during medical procedures.SOLUTION: A support apparatus 10 for supporting a trocar while the trocar extends through a body wall of a patient includes at least one inflatable member 15 extending around the trocar which can be inflated to a predetermined size by a source of fluid 17. The source of fluid is located on the trocar support apparatus 10 itself so as to be carried thereby and provides a fixed volume, allowing inflation only to a fixed size. An abutment member 14 is shaped to be received on an outer surface of a trocar sleeve and adjustable longitudinally of the trocar sleeve so as to be located at a selected position.
