PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling blood pressure and reducing respiratory distress in a cardiac failure.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method for controlling, maintaining or reducing blood pressure in a patient who suffers from acute cardiac failure or who may suffer from acute cardiac failure easily, and/or a method for treating, preventing or relaxing a symptom (respiratory distress, for example). The method contains administration of an effective dose of a pharmaceutical composition containing a short time effect dihydropyridine compound (for example, clevidipine). The pharmaceutical composition can be administered by an initial amount, and if the blood pressure is not controlled or maintained in a range of target blood pressure, or if the blood pressure is not reduced to a range of the target blood pressure, for obtaining the blood pressure in the target blood pressure range, it is possible to set an initial amount of dose.
