A defibrillator, such as an automatic external defibrillator (AED), includes a manual override feature that allows the AED to reduce power consumption and owner discomfort after failing a self test. When the AED senses pressing of the manual override button or receives an acknowledgment signal from the remote service provider, the AED will postpone the alarm output and / or subsequent self-test for a predetermined modification period.
